ANNIE THE MUSICAL ON BROADWAY

ANNIE THE MUSICAL ON BROADWAY

If your holiday plans include a visit to NYC, be sure to take in the revival of Annie the Musical on Broadway. I saw it last night and it was a delightful, family-friendly way to spend an evening. There were an inordinate amount of precious "Little Girls" (and boys) in the audience and (with only one exception) all were very well-behaved.    annie

This production doesn't stray far from the original Annie produced in 1977 (based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie) and you'll instantly recognize the entire storyline and all its musical numbers.  If you're not old enough to have seen the original on Broadway, then, for sure, you've seen the movie which came out after the show.

The entire cast is beyond talented but Lilla Crawford, as Annie, (formerly of Billy Elliot) steals the show, along with her dog, Sandy, who was so well-trained, I watched in utter amazement as she came out on cue and sat perfectly still on the stage. I spent the rest of the evening shaking my head and repeating, "my Chloe can't do that." If I could teach her not to jump on people when they come to the door, I'd be perfectly satisfied.

Twice a year, the theater community collects donations for the Broadway Cares charity. To that end, some of the cast members came out to the lobby afterwards to meet and greet and accept contributions. A portion of the proceeds, this year, will go to those affected by Superstorm Sandy.

For those with extra-large entertainment budgets, a photo opp was available with Sandy, the dog. Two hundred dollars will buy you that precious family photo and a memory that lasts to adulthood.
