Why Visual Direction is Important in Your Web Design
Whether your website has a static landing page or an ever-changing blog post, you may still want to consider Visual Direction in Web Design a key component of its success. Once consumers stumble upon your site, it's important they find it sufficiently easy to read, understand and navigate to spend at least a little time discovering what you're all about and what service you offering.
Apparently, not paying attention to visual direction is a mistake that many people make. It was never even on my radar until I read the above article which states that "by arranging the composition elements in a certain way, a designer can control and force the movement of the viewer’s eyes in and around the layout of the design."
Ideally, you'd like to connect with your readers in some way and be able to further develop this relationship by having them take additional action. The goal may be to have them subscribe to your blog or notice your website's email sign-up, the links you've included to top-producing posts or the eBook you've recently written.
My point is that any picture you insert should be pointed in the direction that leads to the desired behavior. What you want to avoid, for example, is a picture that faces left, if you'd really like them to look right. The link above gives some wonderful visual examples.
