Long Beach, NY - The City by the Sea - Polar Bear Plunge

Long Beach, NY - The City by the Sea - Polar Bear Plunge

February 5, 2017

Super Bowl Sunday, 2017 brings with it the busiest traffic day of the year in Long Beach, NY.

The 18th Long Beach Polar Bear Plunge is expected to attract 15,000 - 20,000 people, approximately 7,000 of whom will be taking the plunge at 1:30 p.m.

"It's all about raising money for the kids for Make-A-Wish and every year it gets better and better," expressed co-founder Kevin McCarthy to Long Beach Herald reporter Bridget Downes - January 26, 2017.

Donations can be made at superbowlsplash.kintera.org or made in person at the official Polar Bear booth at Riverside Boulevard.  Sweatshirts and other apparel are also sold online and in person.

Signed waivers are required from participants before the event.

As parking will be difficult, car-pooling and public transportation are recommended.

Brisk air and water temperatures of around 35 degrees are expected.

I'll be there to cheer on all those hearty souls and to videotape my husband's dive into the Atlantic for proof to his sponsors.
